Being a field visit agent is not the easiest job in the world but, when done properly, it can be very fulfilling.

You will set your own hours and, within the service standards, you will set your own goals.

So what do you need to get started?

1. You must enjoy meeting people. You will be visiting families in their homes and often dealing with families in financial difficulties where you will be the lender’s last option before using litigation.
2. You need a good knowledge of family finance and budgeting.
3. You need a basic knowledge of the benefits system. With many families facing reduced incomes, or even the loss of one or both incomes, you need to know if the circumstances may make them eligible for benefits.
4. You need to know which debts take priority if income is insufficient to meet all outgoings.
5. You need to be able to be completely honest with the borrowers. If no viable arrangement is possible you need to clearly outline the lenders options and you need to cope with the unexpected, because no two visits will be the same.
